Probation officers may complain about Judge
PA Auckland South Auckland probation officers may consider asking the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Paul Reeves, to investigate complaints about an Otahuhu District Court judge. The officers discussed complaints against Judge Peter Duncan with the Race Relations Conciliator, Mr Walter Hirsh, during a stop-work meeting
yesterday. Mr Hirsh explained that judges’ comments in court were privileged. The regional secretary of the Public Service Association, Mr Joris de Bres, said the probation officers would now consider an appeal to the Governor-General, as he appointed judges. "The probation officers have now gone back to see whether they will
seek an investigation by the Governor-General of the complaints about Judge Duncan’s remarks in court about Maori and Pacific Islands people/’ he said.
Mr Tuterangi Sadler, a probation officer, was held in contempt by the Judge on Tuesday when he stood and challenged the Bench. Mr Sadler was discharged on Wednesday without conviction.
