Trade terms worst for 11 years
PA Wellington New Zealand’s terms of trade were the worst for 11 years in the March quarter. The overseas terms of trade index (which measures a changing quantity of imports which can be bought by a fixed quantity of New Zealand’s exports) fell three points to 70 in the March quarter, the Government Statistician, Mr Steve Kuzmicich, said. This deterioration in the terms of trade is the result of import prices rising more than export prices during the quarter, he said. Import prices increased 8.7 per cent, while export price levels increased 4.1 per cent.
