Heating Nazareth
Sir, —M. J. Donnal’s appeal to us all to reduce our contribution to the city’s smog load is timely. But although Sydenham is in a gazetted Clean Air Zone, it seems likely that the new Nazareth House will be heated by coal. Local technical and public health opinion favour night storage electricity for heating the new building. Though The Princess Margaret and Coronation Hospitals are heated by electricity, a Wellington-based quango committee is ruling that Nazareth House should be heated with coal. We believe that the method of heating of Nazareth House should be publicly discussed. The arguments of the committee should be open to public questioning, and also evidence should be given in support of electric heating. — Yours, etc., P. V. NEARY, Secretary, N.Z..Clean Air Society., June 6, |§B6. a.
