Basketball league
PA Wellington U-Bix Palmerston North grabbed a thin slice of third place with a clear-cut 113-101 win over 898 FM Hamilton in the sole Countrywide Basketball League match at the week-end.
The match, postponed from the previous Saturday, decided which team would join Exchequer Saints, Yamaha New Plymouth and Truth North Shore in third place, behind the unbeaten Converse Canterbury and thrice beaten DB Ponsonby, and also closed the first roun&zrf the competition. Payhrston North was the
hungrier side, leading virtually from start to finish and at one stage during the second half searing to a 20point lead. The imports, Tyrone Brown and Willie Burton, led an inspired team effort, as opposed to the waning interest and loose combination shown by the home side. Brown finished with 34 points, three more than Brown who was a lion under the boards. Fred Williams, Ross McQueen and Lance Hazelwood rallied with twofigure contributions. A Hamilton import, Saip Potteri*39 points), got minorpf jring assistance.
