Squash job retained
Don Cotter, of Auckland, has retained his position as manager of the New Zealand men’s squash team for the next world championships, in England next year. Mr Cotter managed the New Zealand side which finished second behind Pakistan in the world teams event in Egypt last December. Three other managers of New Zealand representative teams were also announced at a recent New Zealand Squash Rackets Association management committee meeting in Palmerston North. Julie Garvey was named manageress of the Honda women’s team for the three-
test series against Australia in July and will therefore be the frontrunner for the same job when the women’s world championships are held in New Zealand next year. Miss Garvey, aged 30, is a physical education teacher at Westlake Girls’ High School and a former national junior squash champion. She has represented New Zealand at junior and under-23 levels. The junior women’s team will be managed by Colleen Owen, of Auckland, Bevan Sherwood, of Wellington, will manage the New Zealand Masters team on its tour of Australia in September.
