No break for car thieves

Many people are enjoying a break from work during the Queen’s Birthday holiday week-end, but Christchurch car thieves are still busy. Forty-three vehicles were reported stolen to the Christchurch Police from Friday evening to last evening. A police spokesman said 22 had been recovered by last evening.

Two of the recovered cars had been stripped of

wheels, radios, and parts. One was found in Bexley and the other at Birdlings Flat.

It looks as though those two were stolen to order,” said the spokesman. . He urged motorists to keep their vehicles locked.

Owners of “high risk” vehicles, such as Anglias, Zephyrs, Cortinas, Prefects, and Hillman Hunters, were advised to install an extra security system.
