Television staff celebrate
Christchurch television staff: Doug Adams, commercial producer (left), Brian Nelson, cameraman (centre), and Neil Marfell, technical producer, were among 250 present and former staff celebrating during the week-end 25 years of television in Christchurch.
The three are oldtimers in a business which has seen vast changes in equipment, staff, and screening hours. They clock up about 60 years between them.
Here they show off some of the equipment used over the years, from left, a contempor-
ary studio camera, portable equipment, and an original studio camera. Christchurch was the second city in New Zealand to get television ... several months after television’s debut in Auckland. This weekend’s reunion followed the national celebration last year, which commemorated the twentyfifth anniversary of New Zealand television.
A number of familiar faces turned up for the parties and television tours, including former continuity announcers Joan Palmer, Judy Cunningham, Bryan Allpress and Majorie Simm. The highlights of the 25-year history had been the introduction of colour in 1974 followed closely by the screening of the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, said Mr Adams.
