Traffic well behaved

Traffic behaviour in Christchurch has been good so far this Queen’s Birthday holiday weekend, according to the Ministry of Transport. The Ministry was particularly pleased with the low number of injury accidents reported in Christchurch, said Traffic Senior-Sergeant Syd Burt. The number of reported injury accidents from Friday evening to last evening was 10 — down on the usual figure. None of the accidents involved serious injury. Senior-Sergeant Burt said that by last evening 31 drivers had been tested in Christchurch for suspected drink-driving offences.

Prosecutions were likely to result in 20 cases.

Traffic behaviour could still do with some improvement, said SeniorSergeant Burt. The main problems were motorists following other traffic too closely, not watching where they were going, and speeding.
