Test ‘no surprise’
PA Wellington The Acting Prime Minister, Mr Palmer, expressed little surprise at learning of another French nuclear test at Mururoa Atoll on Saturday.
The test at 5.25 a.m. N.Z. time was recorded by the seismological station on Rarotonga. Its yield was estimated at 20 kilotons by the D.S.I.R. “This test, the fourth in the current series, was not unexpected,” said Mr Palmer.
“It conforms with a pattern of having a series of tests in April-June followed by a further series in October-Decem-ber.
“It seems that France is committed to an equally extensive testing programme this year,” he said.
