Situations Vacant Situations Vacant DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WELFARE COMMUNITY WORKERS (COGS) APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for these challenging positions, attached to the Community Development Unit, Head Office, and deployed throughout New Zealand. The objective of each position is to assist in the establishment of local Community Organisation Grants Schemes (COGS) Allocation Committees, to provide ongoing assistance and support to the committees, and to assist in the coordination of social services. This will involve working with departmental staff at all levels, with other agency personnel and with community groups. Some travel within regions will be required. Applicants must have had successful experience as a community worker or social worker, with an emphasis on liaison and development in the voluntary/communlty social service sectors, demonstrate sound administrative ability, and have a broad knowledge and understanding of their local social service networks. The boundaries of COGS regions and the numbers of Allocation Committees within each region has net yet been finalised, but because of the requirement to have COGS operating by October it is necessary to appoint staff as soon as possible. Some positions will be established on a half-time basis, and applicants should specify location and their preference for a full or half-time position. Appointment will be by contract for 12 months (with possible right of renewal), or by secondment if the appointee is already a member of the public service. The proposed locations for the positions are: Whangarei, Auckland (2), Hamilton, Rotorua, Gisborne, Napier/Hastings, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin/ Invercargill.
