Kerry Counsel could win again at Ashburton
By
G. K. YULE
Kerry Counsel, one of four last-start winners in the field, will be among the favourites for the Chung Wah Restaurant Pace, the middle leg of the T.A.B. treble at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting today. Kerry Counsel was an impressive winner at the Canterbury Park meeting last week. After appearing to be struggling on the home turn, he mounted a
strong run in the straight and got up to shade Tottenham by half a head.
Kerry Counsel, a member of the team, trained near Ashburton by Patrick O’Reilly, jun., has draw awkwardly, but the manner in which he fought on last week suggests that he should be too strong for most in this field.
Beau du Jour, rather disappointing since being trained at Weedons by
Jack Smolensk!, will have his big chance of gaining an overdue win. He has draw', reasonably and
should be able to secure the favourable run which will enable him to use his sharp finishing speed t 6 best advantage. JEveryday was a decisive winner at the Canterbury Park meeting on May 23. He has a second-
line draw to overcome,
but this might not prove beyond his capabilities.
Blythbank Del and Fleet Rover are two others with last-start victories to their credit. Both should be capable of bold runs, but might be stretched to match Even Key, which shaped like an early winner when second to Sunset Panorama in a sprint at Washdyke a fortnight ago. Bramble Hanover, Mack’s Edition and Chummy are others entitled to consideration in an even field.
