Murder victims two children say no to gifts
PA Auckland The two children of a murder victim, Carol Pye, say they will not take gifts from the accident compensation paid to the man convicted of murdering her. Robert Conchie Harris, aged 38, received almost $20,000 compensation for injuries he suffered in an attempted jail break. His lawyer, Mrs Lorraine Smith, said on Wednesday evening that public outrage over the payment might mean Harris would give some of the money to the children. Their father, Mr John Pye, of Te Awamutu, said yesterday that the children were angry and upset when they heard news reports of a proposed gift. His daughter, aged 13, had said: “God, Dad, there is no way in the world I would take his money.”
