New livery for Hercules
The first Royal New Zealand Air Force Hercules aircraft to be painted in a camouflage livery is wheeled out of the Air New Zealand maintenance hangar at Christchurch Airport yesterday. The increasing role of the Hercules as a tactical support aircraft has been a deciding factor in the new livery, which was painted by Air New Zealand maintenance staff from a Canadian design. .
Four other Air Force Hercules will be camouflaged at the airport when they become due for repainting in the next two years. The Hercules will
make its first public appearance in its new colours when it takes part in a fly-past this morning for the Minister of Defence, Mr O’Flynn, during his visit to R.N.Z.A.F. base, Wlgram, today. It will then fly to its home base at Whenuapai, overflying Blenheim at noon, and landing at Wellington for a short stop. Photograph By DES WOODS
