Pottery contest
Entries for the 1986 Fletcher Brownbuilt Pottery Award, now in its tenth year, close on Friday. As in recent years there is no category or theme to the $5OOO award. Each entry is to be judged on its own “excellence.” The winning entry will be announced at the official opening of the award exhibition at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on May 31. Entries selected for the exhibition will be on display to the public at the Museum from June 1 to 15. The Fletcher Brownbuilt Pottery AwaWd was
instigated in 1977 when the winner received $lOOO. It has attracted increasing international support over the years and yet only twice in its history has it been won by an overseas potter. Each year a judge of international standing is chosen. The judge for this year’s award will be announced after entries close.
A commission on the sale of entries accepted for the exhibition, as well as proceeds from exhibition door and catalogue sales, goes to assist the Auckland Studio Potters Centre at Onehunga.
