Coal stockpile at port
About 80,000 tonnes of West Coast coal is stockpiled at Lyttelton, according to the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s traffic manager, Mr D. A. Jones. Stockpiling during April continued about 7000 tonnes a week, Mr Jones told the board’s trade and commercial development committee. “A small coal shipment of 3674 tonnes was loaded aboard the Jebsen Napier on April 3 at a gross rate of 565.2 tonnes an hour, giving a net rate of 686.7 tonnes an hour,” he said in his report. The Stockton No. 1 coal stockpile totals 69.981 tonnes while the Stockton No. 4 coal totals 3138 tonnes. Strongman coal totals about 2452 tonnes while Reefton No. 1 and Denniston coal total 3914 and 165 tonnes respectively. “A new blend of Reefton No. 2, 2500 tonnes, is also being received and is expected to be shipped out towards the end of May,” said Mr Jones.
