Sheep loading to be secret
PA Napier Secrecy and tight security will surround the start of loading of 15,000 live sheep, bound for Saudi Arabia, at the port of Napier today. Only small protests are expected from Hawke’s Bay freezing workers, but the port will still be sealed off. Port security staff would be stationed at each of the two vehicle
gates and the news media would be banned from the port, said the general manager of the Hawke’s Bay Harbour Board, Mr Ken Gilligan. Screens will be put round the wharf where the sheep are loaded so that people cannot watch the loading. Mr Gilligan said the moves were being made because the board wanted to “play down” the event
