India meets resistance
NZPA - ReuterCheltenham The Indian cricketers stumbled across another pocket of determined Zimbabwe resistance on the second day of their three-day match against Gloucestershire yesterday. Last week Zimbabwe’s Graeme Hick stroked - a brilliant 70 for Worcestershire against the touring side. Today it was the turn of his compatriot
Kevin Curran. The Gloucestershire allrounder cracked an unbeaten 69 to help his county declare its first innings 51 runs adrift of the Indians at 271 for five. The touring side, who showed their true batting form yesterday as they swept to 322 for five declared, was 32 without loss in its second innings at the close, a lead of 83. The spinners, Shivlal
Yadav and Ravi Shastri, enjoyed long spells as Gloucestershire, deprived of 50 minutes batting time by bad light at the start, pieced together its reply. Curran was the cornerstone of the innings and shared a stand of 70 with Jeremy Lloyds, and an unbroken partnership worth 61 with lan Payne. Earlier Phil Bainbridge hit 58 in 94 minutes before falling to Yadav.
