‘Press’ league championship
Linwood High School gained a narrow win over Papanui High School when “The Press” rugby league championship continued yesterday. Burnside, Hagley and Mairehau high schools gained convincing wins in their matches. The wellperformed Aranui and Hornby first XIIIs will play the curtain-raiser before the Rugby League Cup fixture between Canterbury and Wellington .at the Show Grounds next
Tuesday night. The schools competition will be divided into two sections when it resumes on May 28.
Yesterday’s results.— Bumside H.S. 40 (S. Cate two, C. Stagg two, S. Lafaele, S. Miller, S. Inglis tries; M. Forward five, M. Prebble goals) beat Riccarton H.S. 18 (B. Rodger two, T. Smith tries; T. Geddis three goals). Linwood H.S. 22 (D. Tehae three, M. Faletamoai, P. Abercrombie tries; Abercrombie goal) beat Papanui
H.S. 18 (S. Siose three, B. Fisher tries; J. Kerrigan goal).
Hagley H.S. 32 (D. Kerr two, A. Ogden, D. Hose, S. Robertson, J. Jackson tries; M. Jarden two, Hose two goals) beat Hillmorton H.S. 12 (W. Wilson, T. Tuki tries; D. Sterling 2 goals). Mairehau H.S. 30 (P. Brunton two, T. Turvey two, W. Muea, A. Tetai, A. Setue tries; Brunton a goal) beat Burnside H.S. B 6 (M. Moses try; S. Hastie goal).
