A 40 per cent drop in sales of fertiliser in the last nine months because of the downturn in the rural economy has led to job losses at the Hornby works of Ravensdown Fertiliser Co-operative, Ltd. A spokesman for the company said that 12 workers had been made redundant and three had accepted voluntary early retirement. Earlier last month, the company’s Seadown works near Timaru stopped making fertiliser, and 21 workers were laid off.
