Walkers’ case rethink plea

PA Wellington The New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association is to ask its selectors to reconsider two Auckland walkers for the Commonwealth Games. The motion that Keith Olsthoom and Shane Donnelly, both of whom qualified for the 30km road walk, but missed winning a Games nomination, have their cases reconsidered was carried by the association management committee. It followed a letter from the Auckland centre, tabled during the committee’s monthly

meeting in Wellington on Tuesday evening. Last month the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association named two Canterbury walkers, Murray Day and Graham Scatter, in the team for Edinburgh. They were the only walkers nominated by the athletic association in spite of there being three available slots in each games event The Aucklanders both walked faster qualifying times than both Day and Scatter.
