Skyhawk job to N.Z.

PA Wellington Three New Zealand companies will participate in a multi-million job to upgrade the Air Force’s Skyhawk aircraft. The companies are Safe Air, Ltd, of Blenheim;

Fisher and Paykel, of Auckland; and Pacific Aerospace , Corporation, Ltd, of Hamilton, the, main contractor, the United States company, Lear Siegler. Lear Siegler said it had

conducted an in-depth survey of several candidate companies before selecting Pacific Aerospace and Fisher and Paykel to fabricate and assemble the installation kits. Safe Air would be responsible for the avionics installations and checking before turning the modified Skyhawks over to the R.N.Z.A.F. The aircraft modifications would be completed at Woodbourne Air Force base and were scheduled to be completed in 38 months. This work would be completed under contract to Lear Siegler with an estimated combined value of $l3 million to the New Zealand companies.
