Record price for buck

PA Tauranga A cashmere buck fetched a world-record price of $37,500 at Te Puke on Monday. The buck was among 150 Australian and New Zealand-bred cashmere does and bucks being sold on behalf of Mandalagh Cashmeres at Te Ranga. The buyer of the Aus-tralian-bred buck, Cashco Irish Gold, was the Albury Park Cashmere Stud at Albury, in South Canterbury. Buyers generally were selective, and many lots were passed in after failing to reach the reserve price.

Australian-bred stock was in demand, and does which had been run with a buck fetched from $4OOO up to $6750. Australian bucks fetched up to $6250.

Unmated cashmere does sold slowly, but several caught buyers’ attention and three sold at $4500, $3750, and $2500 respectively. Buyers were also selective in buying hogget bucks. One reached $3400 and another $l6OO, but otherwise the auctioneer had trouble raising an opening bid.
