Everton gets second slot
NZPA-Reuter London Everton, fired by two goals from its England striker, Gary Lineker, beat West Ham, 3-1, to finish runner-up to its city arch-rival Liverpoor in the English soccer championship yesterday. A seventy-second minute penalty by Trevor Steven sealed the first division victory that left West Ham in third place. The London visitors
scored a ninetieth minute consolation goal through Tony Cottee.
First division Oxford avpolded relegation by winning its last match of the season yesterday, but this means Ipswich goes down.
Tottenham, lifted by Tony Galvin’s first league hat-trick, finished its disappointing season with a flourish by beating Southampton 5-3.
