Even ice hockey

Two evenly matched ice hockey contests were played at the week-end, at The Big Apple ice rink, Opawa.

In the Friday game, the Bruins and the Islanders played to a 4-4 tie, with the Islanders opening the scoring and building up a 4-1 lead after two periods of play. In the final period the Bruins came back with three unanswered goals to tie the game. Scorers: Islanders 4 (N. Kurbatov, G. McDonnell, D. Le Comte, G. Bouwman) Bruins 4 (D. Banks, G. van Dalsam, S. Bradford, R. de Clerk).

The Saturday feature match was a high-scoring,

see-saw battle which was highlighted by an outstanding 6-goal performance by Steve Bowden of the AWA Hitachi Redwings, and a 4-goal effort by Drew Britz of Rangers. The Redwings led 2-1 after the first period and 5-3 after the second, but Rangers came back to tie' the game at 5-all. The score jumped to 7-7 and then Rangers moved into a 97 lead with two minutes to go in the game. Redwings recovered to score twice in quick time to tie the game at 9-9 as time ran out. Scorers: AWA Hitachi Redwings 9 (S. Bowden 6, T. Raateiand 2, D. Williamson), Rangers 9 (D. Britz 4, S. Fagey, A. Maitland, M. Hall, M. Jeffries, F. Ford).
