Trade curbs admitted

By

ROBIN CHARTERIS

in London The French Government conceded for the first time yesterday that imports of New Zealand goods were being held up for political reasons. The Paris correspondent of the “Financial Times” reports that until now France has only

“taken note” of New Zealand protests that France was curbing its imports because of New Zealand’s refusal to release the two French intelligence agents convicted for their part in blowing up the Rainbow Warrior last year. Yesterday, however, the External Trade Minister, Mr Michel Noir, conceded

that New Zealand imports of wool, lambs’ brains, and other products were being held up “by little acts of harassment.” He said this was “not entirely for commercial” reasons, adding that he hoped France’s dispute with New Zealand could be resolved on a reasonable basis.
