Mr Blazey shook Dalton’s hand

NZPA Johannesburg Andy Dalton, captain of the “rebel” New Zealand rugby team, says the New Zealand Rugby Union chairman, Mr Ces Blazey, shook his hand before he left London for the controversial tour. Mr Blazey did not mention Dalton’s plans to play in the republic without his union’s permission. Dalton praised Mr Blazey, saying, “I regard this man very highly. He is honourable and forthright.

“I was also not placed under pressure before leaving London by any one. In fact, Ces shook my hand, but made no mention of the tour to South Africa.” Dalton said he was “delighted this tour has been put together. “The disappointment at last year’s cancellation was hard to put into words and even when we were told not to go, many of us still hoped the opportunity was not lost for ever.” .
