Invermay protest condemned

Tlmaru reporter The protest by rural people against the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, at Invermay Research Station was condemned by the Dominion president of Federated Farmers, Mr Peter Elworthy, in Timaru yesterday. “On behalf of all our members I condemn that activity and ask that it be noted that such action did not take place at other rallies round the country,” Mr Elworthy said at a meeting of the South Can-

terbury provincial executive of Federated Farmers. He said he had been criticised for not speaking out sooner and more forcefully on the events at Invermay, but because reports were so varied and because he was not present he did not wish to make any rash comments. He said that the national march on Parliament at the end of this month would be conducted in an orderly fashion and within the law.
