The 48 bed Obstetric Unit operates under a system of open and closed beds with General Practitioners practising under contract. Based at Woden Valley Hospital, the Department has extensive inpatient and outpatient facilities. These include a 24 bed geriatric assessment ward, a 32 bed rehabilitation ward, a 40 place day hospital, a mobile rehabilitation unit, an independent living centre, a vocational rehabilitation unit, a rehabilitation centre for physically handicapped children and two nursing homes with 254 bed capacity. As well as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services, the extensive rehabilitation therapy facilities include a hydrotherapy pool, a gymnasium. wood and metal workshops and a limb and appliance centre staffed by the Department of Veterans' Affairs. The Department of Rehabilitation and Geriatric Medicine has recently been established as a teaching unit of the University of New South Wales under the directorship of the Professor of Geriatrics. The Department is involved in the training of undergraduate medical students. Salary: Specialist 5A43.936-5A54.505 per annum, Senior Specialist 5A59.788 per annum. Duties: Undertake the medical care and assessment of patients within the service. Assist the Director in the development of services in the Australian Capital Territory.
