Kidston production falls
NZPA-AAP Sydney Gold production at the Kidston mine in North Queensland fell 27 per cent in the March quarter, but the average grade of material mined improved slightly from 2.1 grams per tonne to 2.18 grams per tonne.
The Kidston Gold Mines, Ltd, March quarterly report
said three factors contributed to the production fall — the rainy season which made the oxide ore sticky and difficult to handle, a scheduled relining of the sag mill which was closed for four days, and a bearing failure in the ball mill which meant the loss of a week’s production. “The processing plant is
now performing satisfactorily again and the directors believe that the company will be able to make up for the setbacks of the first quarter during the middle two quarters of 1986,” the report said. The Kidston mine, 280 km south-west of Cairns, is Australia’s richest gold mine.
