Mr Anderton to attend peace rally

Wellington reporter Mr Jim Anderton (Lab., Sydenham) will leave New Zealand today to be a guest speaker at the Centennial Peace Festival in Vancouver, Canada. This is the second year he has been invited to Vancouver, having been a guest speaker at a peace rally there last year. He will join a list of guests that comprises internationally known opponents of the arms race who support peace initiatives and strategies aimed at reducing the

risk of nuclear war. They include J. K. Galbraith, the American economist and author; Petra Kelly, the founder of the Green Party in West Germany; Takeshi Araki, the Mayor of Hiroshima; and Joan Ruddock, chairman of Britain’s Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. While in Vancouver, Mr Anderton will address the Youth for Peace Action Conference, political and peace groups, and meet economists and trade union representatives.
