American actions
Sir,—M. Creel’s claim that the Governments of Angola and Afghanistan are “popular Governments” is based on no evidence whatsoever. His suggestion
that “Reagan is planning to reinstate Somoza in Nicaragua” is quite ridiculous. One of the en-. couraging things about the Reagan Government is that, unlike some previous American Governments, it seems to have some genuine regard for democracy. Of course, political democracy, as we are finding in New Zealand, means very little if voters are manipulated by the media. It needs to be strengthened by some degree of economic democracy and by an education system which produces voters who know history and understand economics. When M. Creel accepts that the Russians live under a tyranny imposed upon them in 1917 by the international banks and that a similar tyranny is now being gradually imposed upon New Zealand, he will have begun to see the light.—Yours, etc., MARK D. SADLER. April 13, 1986.
