Top songwriter dies

NZPA-AP Pennsylvania Linda Creed, a songwriter considered one of the pillars of the “Philly sound," died recently at the age of 37. Ms Creed’s song-writing career began after a brief and unsuccessful attempt to make it as a singer in New York.

She composed songs that produced more than 20 gold and platinum records for such artists as Teddy Pendergrass, Dionne Warwick, The Spinners, Johnny Mathis, Dusty Springfield ' and Connie Stevens.

Ms Creed’s composition, “Greatest Love Of All,” sung by Whitney Houston, is No. 5 on “Billboard” magazine’s list of bestselling adult contemporary singles.
