Giant tankers used

NZPA-PA London The United States air strike on Libya came after a recent increase in activity in American bases in Britain. Giant Extender tanker aircraft flew in to bases at Fairford, Gloucestershire, and at Mildenhall at the week-end to join other KCI3S tankers based there.

The Fills from U.S.A.F. bases in Britain which took part in the attack would have had to refuel on their journey to and from Libya.

The aircraft based at Upper Heyford are known as EFI UAs and are fitted with radar jammers. It seems likely that they led the way, rendering Libyan radar impotent before the real strike began. All Fills are capable of flying to 60,000 feet at more than 2500km/h although they might have approached the Libyan coast much closer to sea level.
