Soccer brawler free to marry
NZPA-AP Cardiff An amateur Welsh soccer player, pleading for leniency so he could buy an apartment and get married on schedule, yesterday was granted suspension of a jail term imposed for fracturing an opponent’s cheekbone during a mid-game fight. Gavin John Davies, a centre-half for the local team in Cardiff, had
been sentenced on Monday to three months jail after pleading guilty to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm to a rival, Stephen Fish, in a game last December 1. Davies appealed against the sentence; saying it could cost him his job and the apartment he is buying and force postponement of wedding plans.
