‘Soupcon’ of sex
In Jean-Charles Tacchella’s "Soupcon,” now showing at the Academy a happily married couple announces, on their silver wedding anniversary, that they are finally, joyfully and still in love, cutting the knot.
This is an extension of Tacchella’s theme in “Cousin Cousine” that sexual relationships must be fun if they are to be mutually fulfilling. And when the fun winds down, so should the relationship. In “Soupcon,” everybody is scandalised by the announcement, especially two of the children, newly married and full of the seriousness of their marriage vows.
The result is a series of one-night stands with others, joie de vivre, and the kind of random wit of which only the French are capable.
