Big Mac next Year

Property reporter Big Macs, Ronald McDonald, and the Hamburglar are still at least nine months away from tempting Christchurch taste buds with McDonalds foods. Mr John Evans, public relations consultant for the McDonalds food chain in New Zealand, said the company was looking at three possible sites in Christchurch but had been unable to finalise negotiations on any.

“Ideally, the company would like to open two simultaneously and a third as soon as possible thereafter,” he said. It is hoped that the stores will open in the first quarter of next year, said Mr Evans. A site in the new Linwood Mall was probably the most advanced in negotiation of the three sites, he said.

It is believed that another site is in Riccarton Road.
