Link with Algeria formalised

The New Zealand Ambassador to Algeria, Mr John McArthur, has presented his credentials to the Algerian President, Mr Chadli, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr O’Flynn, has said.
Mr McArthur, also Ambassador to France and the Holy See, was resident in Paris but would make regular visits to Algeria, Mr O’Flynn said. The appointment came after the announcement last October that the two countries had established diplomatic relations. Mr O’Flynn said New Zealand exports to Algeria had grown from $lOO,OOO in 1980-81 to $132.8 million in 1984-85, making it New Zealand’s secondlargest Middle Eastern martait and the eighteenth largest market worldwide.
