Merivale liquor store closes
The big Merivale Liquorland store at the corner of Papanui Road and Leinster Road has been closed and the land will be sold.
The owner of the site, Ballin Rattray, Ltd, said that the store’s proximity to other liquor outlets owned by the company was the main reason for the sale.
Ballin Rattray also owns the Carlton Liquor store and the Papanui Green Bottle Wholesale store. Mr Jim Veitch, the
group’s general manager, said that staff would be transferred to the company’s other shops and no jobs would be lost. Clients were told that they could transfer their business to the Liquorland in Ham, he said. This building, at the corner of Clyde Road and Ham Road, would be expanded and improved to deal with the extra custom, said Mr Veitch. The Merivale property, which is 5500 sq m, will be offered for sale by tender.
