NATIONAL SUPERANNUITANTS INCOME TAX SURCHARGE 1986/87~ If you receive National “Super” you may have to pay an income tax surcharge. This is a special income tax of 25% payable on income above certain exemption levels. For the year commencing 1 April 1986, new exemption levels apply. Are you liable? You will be liable for the surcharge only if — • you’re single and your taxable income not counting National “Super”, will exceed $7202 for the year. • you’re married and your combined taxable income, not counting National “Super”, will exceed $12012 for the year. How should it be paid? If you are liable for the surcharge you should pay it by having it — • deducted from your National “Super’,’ or • deducted along with the normal PAYE deductions on your other income. If your only other income is from investments eg rent, interest, dividends, you can pay the surcharge along with your provisional tax. Doyou want help?
