Marsh team fit for Trentham

Special correspondent Palmerston North

Marlon and Bess, although not the fastest, turned in a satisfactory trial yesterday morning at Woodville for the UDC Finance Handicap at Trentham.

They are members of a 10-strong team the trainer, Bruce Marsh, has engaged at Trentham. All looked fit and well yesterday morning, although Marsh is hoping for fine weather to provide a firm track.

On the plough, Marlon carried a bigger weight than Bess when they kept together over 1600 m. They ran the last 1400 m in 1:32.8, 1000 m in 1:5.4 and 600 m in 38.15. Maurice Campbell will ride Marlpl}, and Gany Phil-

lips is on Bess. Hassendean worked smartly with Flight to Reno over 1000 m in 1:2, the 800 m in 49.7 s and 600 m in 375. Hassendean could surprise with a bold run in the 2ZB Golden Mile.

Race rival Runneth galloped with Prendre over 1200 m in Imin 17s, the last 600 m in 36.85. Runneth missed the Air New Zealand Stakes because of a low blood count, and should run a good 1600 m fresh. Prendre rates a chance in the Preston Handicap. Gay Asset and Look At Me looked in the right order for their Trentham engagements when they ran 1000 m in Imin 2.45, the final 600 m in 37.35. Grand Gaffe went 1200 m

in Imln 20.55.

Whata Beauty looks fit for the UDC Handicap. She finished ahead of Ego after running 1200 m in Imin 17s, the last 600 m in 39.45. Whata Beauty has compiled a consistent record to date and is improving steadily. Jeff Lynds had no rider for her yesterday morning. Minister Aythorpe and Hipperial ran 800 m in 49.35, the last 600 m in 365. Mister Aythorpe scored impressively at Hastings in his second race, and meets Auto Air in the Sovereign Lodge. Forward Thinking and Nautical Heir ran IOOOin in Imin 4.95, sprinting the last 600 m in 365. Nautical Heir worked well, but has a wide draw to overcome at Trentham.
