Fun for all
For many visitors the grand parade at 2 p.m. will be the focal point of the show. The parade will be piped around the main ring by the McAlpines North Canterbury Pipe Band with an official party of the president, Mr Neil Macfarlane, two vicepresidents, Messrs John Belton and Bill Rutherford, the member of Parliament for Rangiora, Mr Jim Gerard, and the secretary, Mr -Kelvin Dunbar, leading the parade.
As well as the parade, the usual range of stock and rural exhibits, and commercial displays, the show will feature many other entertainments, including a variety of side shows, which will provide lots of fun for both young and old.
Community organisations make show day a chance to publicise their
activities and sometimes to raise funds. Among these will be the Christchurch Outdoor Recreational Information Centre, the Amuri Native Plant Interest Group, the Forest Service, and the Live Aid caravan.
Youngsters under 11 years can have fun at sheep riding contests, which will be held for part of the day. A variation in horse events will be provided by the western riding competitions, with western attire and gear being part of the conditions.
A local policeman, Constable Graeme Fletcher, is in the reserves as a mounted policeman during the visit of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. If he is not required for duty, he will give a display of police horsemanship in the show ring.
