Document on tax delayed

PA Wellington A consultative document on the taxing of farm _> livestock and development spending has been delayed for about a week. A consultative committee, chaired by Dr Don Brash; was set up to examine the proposed tax changes announced in the December financial statement. A consultative document, providing the basis for public submissions, was due to be released by today. However, the Minister

of Finance, Mr Douglas, said the release was being delayed. “It is important that the Government gets this document right Fairness and farm efficiency will be the top priorities in changes to the existing tax regime.” Mr Douglas said the Government intended replacing existing development expenditure and standard values schemes to restore balance with other commercial areas which the old schemes had “knocked out of kilter.”
