M.P.s’ income register

Sir,—ln asserting, as you do in your editorial, that “the whole idea reeks of irrelevance and potential mischief’ (February 8), and arguing, in reply to the Deputy Prime Minister (February 12), that "we do not accept that foreign models are always good examples,’’ are you not being a little parochial? Of course it is elementary that we do our own homework and make our own decisions here, but is it not prudent to look carefully at the rules the British Parliament (and others) have introduced and retained, as the N.Z.P.A. correspondent, Peter O’Hara, usefully does in his article (February 26)? Indeed, may not the British experience suggest that our own requirements, if and when introduced, be a little more robust? — Yours, etc.,

HAROLD EVANS. February 27, 1986.
