Airport mini-bus to end
A Christchurch mini-bus operator, Pacific Tourways, Ltd, will cancel its airport-to-hotel bus services from March 1.
Financial problems were the main reason why the company .wanted to stop the seven-day service it ran every 45 minutes between the airport and 19 hotels and motels.
The company had lost about $46,000 since it started the service in December, 1984, said the company’s director, Mr Kit Johnson, at a No. 9 District Transport Licensing Authority hearing yesterday. It had been able to absorb these losses but the service’s prospects did not look bright, he said. Christchurch Airport was too close to the city’s centre to make the service attractive to travellers. Pacific Tourways had charged $4 a passenger for a trip to the city. This meant a couple would pay $B, but because the airport was so close a taxi fare was only $9 and people seemed to prefer cabs.
The No. 9 District Transport Licensing Authority, Mr Ken Moore, granted the company’s application to cancel the service.
