Hadlee’s haul
Richard Hadlee gained his three-hundredth test wicket when he dismissed the Australian captain, Allan Border, in the first cricket, international of the current series in Wellington last week. , His tally is currently 302, and 92 of those have been gained against Australia. He took 33 of them iii the series against the trans-Tasman foe earlier this summer; no-one has done so well in a three-match test tussle since 1907. Hadlee’s best figures in the series were 9/52 in the first test, in Brisbane. Other memorable performances among the many were his 6/26 against England in 1978 and his 7/23 against the Indians in 1976. Hadlee has played in 16 of the tests New Zealand has won. In those matches he has taken 126 wickets, at an average of 12 — a clear indication of his value and striking power to the side.
