Tourism grant for hostel
The Youth Hostels Association has received a $50,000 tourism grant towards the building of Its new Mount Cook hostel.
The grant was announced last week by the Minister of Tourism, Mr Moore, under the community and public sector grant scheme. The Association’s chief executive, Mr Peter Abrams, said the grant would assist with the costs of the hostel, which have recently risen $60,000 to $780,000 because of legal delays. The new hostel is expected to be completed by next summer and will cater for up to 59 people, twice the capacity of the present hostel. It will be built by Fraemohs Industries, Christchurch. Road toll 105
The Ministry of Transport said yesterday that 105 road deaths had been reported so far this year, compared with 102 at the corresponding time last year. There had been 45 deaths this month, compared wiith 52 at the corresponding time .in February last year. — (PA).
