Decision on move deferred
A decision on whether the Canterbury branch of the Standardbred Breeders’ Association will support the Hamess Horse Association will be made in the next few months. The branch, at its annual meeting last week, decided to defer a decision until a sub-committee had met the president of the association, Mr Bevan Smith, and discussed certain aspects of affiliation with the group which is attempting to secure a seat on the executive of the Trotting Conference.
The Hamess Horse Association, formed some 12 months ago, had a move to gain a voice on the executive defeated at the last annual meeting of the conference. The association is to represent all of the kindred bodies, which until now have had separate national organisations, which made individual representations to the conference. However, problems have developed in the section controlling owners and trainers. The Canterbury and Southland
groups, the two largest in the country, have withdrawn from the national body.
