LUNCH
in the pitta bread, they were a feast on their own. The drumsticks were marinated in a delicious concoction which was made, I discovered later, from a sauce called “shelf sauce”... which consists of Ingredients plucked from the shelf almost at random. This time the combination of honey and soy sauce as the main constituents, was a winner.
It is best to ask for picnic lunches a little in advance because of the time needed for preparation, and sizes and costs can be adjusted to suit needs. Since 28 UP does not
yet have a 8.Y.0. licence, if picnicking you will have to 8.Y.0.8. (Bring your Own Booze and Bear). That’s a small drawback for a restaurant which comes as a breath of fresh air to our stultified expectations of lunching in the inner city. Lizzie Thompson, the owner/ caterer/chef, who was trained in Cordon Bleu in London, has created an atmosphere of friendly service and conveys her enjoyment of food preparation through the dishes themselves.
Open for lunches during weekdays, and on Friday evenings, 28 UP is excellent value for money.
