Two jailed for armed robbery
PA Auckland Two men who earlier admitted the $6400 armed robbery of the Green Bay Post Office have been jailed for five years. Kevin John Hume, aged 24, unemployed, of New Lynn, and Alan Stuart Bradley, aged 22, unemployed, of Kingsland, who had admitted the charge
of aggravated robbery, appeared in the High Court at Auckland for sentence yesterday. Counsel for Hume, Mr Mike Rowe, told Mr Justice Chilwell that his client had trouble with money and drugs, and saw the robbery as an
easy way out. For Bradley, Mr Michael Crew said the rifle used in the hold-up was not loaded. He urged that Judge to keep the "inevitable” jail term as short as possible so that Bradley would not make prison contacts that could lead him into a life of crime.
His Honour said he would take into account the men’s co-operation with police and early pleas of guilty. The incidence of armed hold-up in New Zealand had reached such a state that a deterrent sentence was called for, he said.
