Post Office charges
Sir,—Once again we are treated to a display of muscleflexing by a Government department. One wonders how this kind of exercise can occur with such monotonous regularity. Since 1979 the Postmaster-General has made annual announcements of massive price increases across the board while revealing a staggering profit in the department’s operation. Should this year’s proclamation cause shock or dismay, just think of all that marvellous technology waiting in the wings. If you cannot afford such basics as postage stamps or a telephone conversation, , remember that the Department of Social Welfare is waiting to help. Could one reasonably ask for more? — Yours, etc., (Mrs) M. D. COLEY. February 22, 1986.
